Register for Our Summer Forging Saturdays
Mini Hammer-Ins!

July 30, August 6, and August 13, 2022

We are so excited to fire up the forges and hammer together again! Whether you want to come out and try blacksmithing for the first time, or you’d like to forge something to exhibit at the fair but don’t have a home shop, or you just want to come hammer with some old friends, we hope you’ll come join us at these three Saturday forging events! We will have a variety of beginner projects available to choose from with the steel provided, or you can choose to bring your own metal to the open forge and create something unique. Fair entry forms will be available at the first two events and must be postmarked or dropped off by August 9th to be accepted by the fair, but the items won’t need to be dropped off until September 6th so there will be time to finish forging at the third event if you need to. We want to encourage everyone as much as we can to participate in the new ironwork category at the fair craft exhibit, to help expose the public to modern blacksmithing wares and take home some ribbons! There is no fee to enter your work, and high participation will secure the new ironwork category for years to come.

We have a NEW LOCATION for these events! We are proud to be hosted by M.A.D. Co Lab Studios in their large gravel lot behind their historic brick warehouse-turned-art-space. They are excited to have us there blacksmithing and may be having some of their own outdoor art activities alongside us, more details to come on that, and their in-house café Celestial Beans is open 11 to 3:30.

Each Saturday event will have a morning session from 9 to 1 and an afternoon session from 2 to 6. You can register for as many sessions as you want, but we will have a limited number of projects to choose from so we recommend bringing your own steel to work on if you are going to forge for more than one or two sessions. Our event is right across the street from Pacific Recycling, and their scrap yard is open from 8 AM to noon on Saturdays, and you can buy steel scrap there for 55cents/lb. We will be running two coke forges (two anvils per forge, two smiths per anvil) so a max of 8 smiths per session for these events. Some of the projects we’ll be offering instruction and materials for are S hooks, punched J hooks, bracelets, cloak pins, tiny snakes, dinner bells, and more! We are a little rusty and our tools are a little dusty, but we can’t wait to see what you all create!

Please fill out all four fields for each session you register for, including whether you’d like to do our projects or if you’re bringing your own material to forge with and what your experience level is.
