Registration Open for the Fall Hammer-In

October 5+6, 2019

We are very excited to try out some changes to our Hammer-In this fall to accommodate the wishes of our members! In addition to the forging instruction happening under the canopy, we will provide an open forge area where experienced smiths can bring their own equipment, forge their own steel, and network with each other! $25 covers the whole weekend for the open forge area, which helps the club pay for insurance at the event.

Under the canopy, the Hammer-In will run as usual and be broken into four sessions, capped at 24 smiths per session, which allows for approximately two smiths per anvil and plenty of time to hammer. Each 4-hour session is $25, and folks are welcome to sign up for more than one session. For first-timers, we will have introductory projects such as nail and hook making to learn the basics. Once those are achieved, newbies can join returning smiths and work on more advanced projects or supervised individual projects (be prepared to chip in for steel if you need more than your allotted portion). Morning sessions are 8 AM to noon and afternoon sessions are 1 to 5 PM.

CFI is dedicated to cultivating blacksmithing in the Intermountain Northwest, and that means exposing beginners to the craft but equally important is continuing to challenge returning members with progressively skillful projects. As usual, for safety reasons there can be no knife or weapon making at the Hammer-In, but our instructors do offer knife classes at their own shops if that is your main interest.

We are once again taking pre-orders for CFI shirts which will be ready to pick up at the Hammer-In. If you want to be sure we have your size, please order by September 18th. They are printed locally and are available in orange or gray T-shirts and *new* charcoal gray ladies tank tops, 100% cotton (perfect for forging!) Bottled water will be available during the event for a $1 donation to the club.

CFI will be having a public planning meeting the evening of October 11, time and location TBD soon! Everyone who is interested in being involved in CFI and attending blacksmithing events is invited to come find out more about CFI and our plans for 2020, and also to let us know more about what you hope to get out of the club.
