Summer Forging Registration is Open!
We haven’t hosted summer forging events in a while (some of us are still recovering from that sweltering blacktop in August 2022 😅), but we’ve found the perfect spot to beat the heat: Mission Meadows Community Garden!
We’re thrilled to offer open forging hours in such a beautiful setting throughout July and August.
🔥 What to Expect
- July and August forging hours:
- Wednesdays (5:30 – 7:30pm) — overseen by Mallory
- Sundays (9:00am – noon) — overseen by David
- Additional events TBA
- Cost: $5 — just enough to cover fuel
- Bring your own steel* and tools if you can
- Self-directed work encouraged — minimal instruction provided
- Great opportunity to work on fair entries!
⚠️ Ages 18+ only. Some forging experience is strongly preferred.
🔥 Space Is Limited!
- Please only register for dates you can commit to
- If something comes up, let us know ASAP so we can offer your spot to someone else
- If a day is full, feel free to stop by and hang out, but only registered participants can forge
*We’ll have a small amount of scrap steel available for an extra donation if needed.
🔥 Things You Should Know Before You Arrive:
What to Bring & Wear:
- Drinking water (there is no water source onsite)
- Close-toed shoes
- Clothing made of natural fibers (no synthetics)
- Safety glasses — we have some available if needed
- Signed liability waiver (you can sign it upon arrival)
Please Note:
- There is no bathroom onsite
- Pack it in, pack it out – let’s keep the garden pristine
- Be respectful guests of the garden community
📍 How to Get There (Ignore Google Maps)
Enter the garden from the east side:
- From Mission Ave, turn south on Bowdish Road
- Then turn right on Maxwell Ave
- Ignore the “No Motorized Vehicles” sign – you’re allowed in!
- Drive into the garden and pass the covered table area
- Park in the open area on your left, facing the flower garden
- The forge is just a short walk to the east, beyond the garden
🚫 Do not enter from Pierce Road — this is restricted access.
